Before jumping into my Satu’li Canteen review, I have to admit something here that I’m a little ashamed to say…
When I first heard Disney was planning to build part of a park based on the movie Avatar I was less than thrilled.
As a matter of fact, I even got an invite as an Annual Passholder for an early look at the new addition to Animal Kingdom. AND I DIDN’T TAKE IT. Even though it wouldn’t have worked out for me work-wise, it still haunts me to this day that I did not take this opportunity; I literally regret it all the time.
Especially after the first time I tasted their delicious dishes. From that moment, I was hooked.
So Many Firsts
I didn’t know I was going to regret it though, until I finally made it to Pandora in October of last year. I was on a trip with Castle Kara, her two boys, and my nephew, Judea. Animal Kingdom was the first Disney Park day for me and Judea of this trip, and we were so excited.
There were actually a lot of firsts for us on this Animal Kingdom day. First time riding on Dinosaur, first time eating at Flame Tree Barbecue (I’ll post about this later), the first time seeing Pandora, and first time eating at Satu’li Canteen.
Walking into Pandora is definitely stepping into another world. Everywhere you look there is something interesting to see. Whether it’s the floating islands, unique plants, or the beautiful waterfalls. It was all my favorite.
Yummy Food, Spectacular Views
Satu’li Canteen is a quick service, meaning you order your food and then go and pick it up, rather than someone taking your order and serving you your meal. We used the app to place our orders, found a good table in the courtyard outside, and then went inside when it was time to grab our food. The only thing I found inconvenient about this setup, was once we were back outside we realized we didn’t have any silverware and had to go back inside, and it was kept in the opposite direction from the food pickup counter. It was quite a maze to find it.
But here’s what’s fun about Satu’li Canteen: they have make your own bowls.
There’s lots of different options, and different combinations to try. You basically pick a base, a protein, and then a topping.
This is great for those of us with food allergies.
I did a red and sweet potato hash with chili-spiced crispy fried tofu and charred onion Chimichurri sauce. It was so delicious! I could eat just the red and sweet potato hash all day long. My nephew did a cheeseburger pod that came with chips, and we both enjoyed a cold refreshing Night Blossom drink. It was super sour but so yummy!
In addition to great food, you can’t beat the striking environment. There’s so much to take in, and so many goodies to try. Not to mention, the awesome rides! Overall, our first time at Pandora was an excellent experience!
