When most non-food-allergy people hear the word “gluten-free,” they automatically assume the food will not taste good. To their credit, gluten-free items may taste a little different from their regular gluten-filled cuisine. But for those of us who must eat gluten-free, whether from Celiac Disease (me), a gluten intolerance, or a wheat allergy, it’s still important our food tastes delicious! And we’re going to show you the ins and outs of Gluten Free Disney.

Walt Disney World is the BEST place to eat gluten-free that I have ever experienced. Here are a few reasons why:

They take the utmost care so that your food will not be cross-contaminated.

When you make your table service reservations, they have implemented a wonderful place on the website and app where you can let them know that you or someone in your party is gluten-free! This also works for any other food allergies. Then, as soon as you check in, they’re aware someone in your party needs the GF menu and/or needs to speak to the chef.

Before, a chef would come to the table no matter what to talk to you about your options. But it seems they have trained their wait staff so well on the topic of food allergies that a chef only comes to talk to you if you request it. In all my times doing this, I have not had an issue with either method.

They have several options.

Usually when you go to a restaurant, they have anywhere from a handful of items to just the front side of a small menu card that are either GF or can be modified to be so.

Disney has the most options I have ever seen!

Out of all the years coming to Disney (about five consecutively) I’ve only had two not-so-great experiences. One was really not good at all, but was quickly rectified, and the other was a couple disappointments over a short trip. But that still hasn’t deterred me from enjoying a yummy meal at my favorite place in the world! Their service and variety is still head and shoulders above anywhere else I’ve vacationed.

They have well prepared, and delicious GF food.

And that’s not just at the more expensive, table service meals. One of my absolute favorite meals is at the Columbia Harbor House. It’s simply a plate filled with fried chicken tenders and fries. If you have been GF for a while now, then you know how hard it is to be able to have GF fries from places that don’t have a dedicated fryer, or just fried food in general for that matter! It is not easy to find GF chicken tenders at a restaurant outside of Disney World.

This also brings me to my next point.

Quantity.

Just because you are eating GF, or another food allergy-modification, doesn’t mean you will have a measly meal. No way! The plate of chicken tenders and french fries at the Columbia Harbor House is huge, and easily shared by two people!

And if you are on the dining plan, where you get an appetizer, entrée, and dessert, they will make sure you have great options for each.

So…
