Disneyland isn’t as large as Disney World, but no matter which park you go to, you’re going to be doing a LOT of walking! Many First Timers, and even some more seasoned veterans, don’t think to get in shape as part of their preparation for a Disney vacation. But it should definitely be on your to-do list! So we reached out to a professional fitness Personal Trainer and Crossfit coach, in order to get some legit tips, for how to prepare to walk around Disney.

Coach Samson says: If you typically work sitting down all day and don’t have a regular work out routine – start with 10 minutes a day walking and then up it 5 more minutes every other day. Then try to get yourself up to an hour a day or at least every other day.

And start at least two months before your trip. Starting earlier wouldn’t hurt either, especially if you’ll only be able to get in three days or less of walking a week.

You can do this outdoors or on a treadmill, whichever you prefer.

If you have kids who will also be walking the duration of the trip, include them in the walks as well. You can make it fun and talk about all your Disney plans! And everyday may not be necessary for them, at least every other would be sufficient. But if you’re already heading out for an evening stroll, you might as well bring them along!

If you have a regular exercise routine, you could try adding in an extra day or increasing the time you work out. But if you already lead an active lifestyle with lots of activity you should be able to keep up with a day’s worth of walking at the parks!

We also recommend finding a pair of comfortable walking shoes. Make sure you break them in before your trip. Far too many people come with new shoes and leave with blisters they weren’t expecting! And because of the Florida heat, we can’t end without highly recommending that you stay hydrated by drinking lots of water!
