What to Wear at Disney

One of my favorite things about going on a trip to Disney World is planning what I will wear each day to the parks. Let’s not waste another moment and dive right into what to wear at Disney!

Let’s Talk Disney Outfits!

I have this thing about matching. I like to wear certain colors in certain seasons, or when I travel, I like to “fit” this new environment.

Like wearing beach-y or tropical clothes to FL, etc. I’m sure I’m not the only one who does this, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who also does this when traveling to Disney! Visiting Disney World parks calls for Disney themed shirts of course! But I don’t just wear any kind of Disney shirt, I have a method.

Since I like “matching” my environment, I like to bring shirts that match each park.

For example, on Magic Kingdom days, I will wear a top that has Ariel, or Ursula on it (my favorite princess and villain), or my Splash Mountain tee, or Orange Bird, or anything that has to do with something tied to Magic Kingdom. For Animal Kingdom, I love to wear Lion King shirts. I have several. It also happens to be one of my favorite movies! Star Wars and Toy Story are good options for Hollywood Studios. Epcot has always been a little harder for me. If you love Figment, or attend the Flower and Garden Festival, or Wine and Food and snag a few tees, those would be good options! For my upcoming trip in October, I ordered a shirt off of Etsy with Spaceship Earth on it, so I’d have something to wear. You could also buy a shirt from one of the countries (or several!), and wear that while you explore the park.

Let’s Talk Accessories!

The Disney Store, along with park merchandise, as well as Etsy shops, make it possible to accessorize any kind of outfit.

Here are some accessories to consider when planning your outfit for Disney:

  • Ears—Mickey/Minnie Ears make for one of the most fun accessories! Think about your outfits when purchasing these at the parks, or even on Etsy.
  • Earrings—I have three pairs of Mickey earrings. One pair I bought through shopDisney and they are my favorite. We will be making a post and/or video soon on our Favorite Disney Purchases, and these will be included so I won’t spoil them now! I have two other pairs I bought off of Etsy. I love the idea of wearing earrings that give off the Disney spirit, and there are endless options to choose from!
  • Alex and Ani bracelets—these are another great way to accessorize your Disney themed outfit. There are so many to pick from: Mickey or Minnie heads, cute food, Princesses, characters, and many more.
  • Dooney and Bourke—Dooney and Bourke have been making Disney bags for a long time. I did some digging online to see if I could find when they made their first bag for Disney. An article I came across written in 2010, talked about a new Disney line, but had stated the first one was actually released in 2009. I’m not sure how accurate this is, but still! That’s a long time. They have several styles available that make it easy to add to any outfit. Such as: wristlets, crossbodys, satchels, and totes.

Other Factors

Some other things to consider when planning your outfit for Disney are weather and time of year.

If it’s Summer, you’ll probably want to wear shorts or capris. If you’re going in the rainy season, you may want to bring an extra shirt with you to the parks in case you get rained on, or if you’re planning to ride Splash Mountain!

I haven’t been to FL in December/January in a long time. But my sister lives there and it actually managed to get cold this past year, so long pants and long sleeves, or even a sweatshirt would be good to contemplate bringing if you’re planning to visit during that time of year. You can get a better idea of what the weather is like by checking out our Average Temps at Disney article. It’s got all the seasons, so you’ll be prepared!

Also along with the Seasons, you’ll probably want to consider the different holidays, such as Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Fourth of July, etc. and how to make a holiday-themed outfit!

Remember when I said I like to wear certain colors in certain seasons? In the Fall I love to wear deep reds, dark greens, oranges, and mustard yellow. I normally would try to come up with Disney shirts that fit this scheme for my upcoming October trip, but I actually have been attracted to shirts that are bright and more “Summery” so I’m going to go against my own grain, and wear them because I love them!
